Textiles shed microfibers during use and washing, which can enter the environment and the food chain, causing pollution.

Environmental pollution

According to a survey by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 35% of non-biodegradable, marine microplastic pollution comes from synthetic fibers.

Biological food chain pollution

Recent studies indicate that each person ingests approximately a credit card's worth of plastic every week. Although the medical community has not reached a definitive conclusion on the impact of plastic on human health, potential risks are indicated.

Decrease of textiles quality and lifespan

Textiles that shed microfibers and are less durable experience a decrease in their lifespan. This leads to resource wastage, as well as environmental burdens.

Testing and evaluation

A microfiber shedding rate test revealed that monofilament sheds fewer fibers than multifilament.

Under the same denier, monofilaments have a lower breakage probability than multifilaments.

RTS aims to reduce the diameter of monofilaments, thereby applying them in a wider range of textiles and reducing the likelihood of microplastic waste.

Our goals

Textiles produced with monofilaments have been found to be stiff and uncomfortable to the touch. To expand the range of applications for monofilaments and reduce their microfiber shedding, we are making it even thinner, softer, and more elastic than our current 50 denier monofilament.
